Indigenous Artists of Alberta

I am a self-taught Ojibwe or Anishinaabe artist currently based in Edmonton, Alberta. I was born in Thompson, Manitoba, and my parents are from North Bay and Manitoulin Island.
 

Jason Carter is a proud contemporary Indigenous artist from Little Red River Cree Nation currently based in beautiful Alberta, Canada. He is a sculptor, painter, illustrator, public artist and graphic designer, and his work can be seen worldwide.

Welcome! Tansi! My name is Mackenzie Brown and my Cree name is Kamamak, which means Butterfly. I am an Indigenous singer, drummer, storyteller, knowledge seeker, songwriter, artist, Cree cultural ambassador and advocate of fun!

Alex Janvier, Denesuline, from the Cold Lake First Nations, has been a professional artist for decades. He is renowned for his distinct curved lines and use of bright colour combinations.

Aaron Paquette is one of Canada's premiere First Nations artists known for his bright colours, strong lines and for sharing new ways of looking at age-old experiences and beliefs. Based in Edmonton, Aaron has been creating art for the past 20 years. 

The talented Cree musician and drum-maker from Maskwacis, Alberta was born into a musical family. His father, Steve Wood, was one of the co-founders of the globally acclaimed Maskwacis-based powwow and Round Dance band, Northern Cree.

​Electric Religious is the project of Treaty-6 based Métis singer-songwriter, Brandon Baker, whose guitar-driven music has been described as “bursting with inspiration, insight, and hope.”

Filmmaker Ahnahktsipiitaa (Colin Van Loon) originally hails from The Piikani Nation. During his upbringing, he resided alongside his mother in Lethbridge and many other dusty Southern Alberta towns.

Melody McArthur is a multi-award-winning pop-inspired R&B singer, songwriter, and actress from Treaty 8, Alberta. She is originally from Big Stone Cree Nation, but now lives in Edmonton.
